Winter Recess continues this week and we’re ready with activities no matter what weather Mother Nature throws at us. And it’s c-c-cold today so dress warm! Join us in the Library’s Back Yard (east side of the Library) at 11 a.m. on Thursdays.
Bring the Internet Home!
WCL cardholders can now bring the internet home thanks to a pilot program by the Montana State Library. Available for checkout are 4 Verizon Jetpack hotspots – devices that provide internet service when a cell tower is within range – and 2 iPad tablets. HP laptops from the State Library are on their way and will be available soon.
Here are some more details about the device lending program:
- Patrons with a WCL library card in good standing can check out one or more devices for 14 days. Temporary cards are not eligible for this service.
- Items MUST be returned to the Circulation desk inside the Library. Remember that you can call ahead (406-862-9914) or ring the doorbell for curbside service if you do not wish to enter the Library.
- Borrowers will be required to sign a User Agreement Form before borrowing devices to make sure that all terms and conditions are understood (download example: WCL device user agreement).
- Devices are non-holdable (cannot be reserved) and non-renewable.
Pumpkin Carving Update
Did you reserve a pumpkin for Pumpkin Carving under the portico today? Your pumpkin awaits! But it’s so cold that we have an option for you: come pick your pumpkin, borrow our carving tools, and bring it back – and we’ll get it to City Hall on Monday so everyone can see it! Call 862-9914 and let us know if you’ll be picking up your pumpkin! We’ll be here until 3 p.m. today.
Baker Park Storytime Stroll – rain or shine!
Our Storytime panels have their new vinyl jackets just in time for Autumn! We won’t let the weather stop us. Storytime Stroll at Baker Park Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Thursdays at the Library at 11 a.m.
Baker Park Storytime Stroll starts on the first day of Fall.
Our new storytime starts today (if you’re reading this on the first day of Fall, Sept. 22, that is!) We’ll have our story panels set up by 1 p.m. at Baker Street Park, on the corner of 5th and Central. A librarian-led reading of “Little Owl Lost” starts at that time, but if you can’t make it, the panels will stay up until 5 p.m.
Giant bubbles will be special guests at this storytime. Hope to see you there, if not at the first one, then at another – Baker Park Storytime Stroll is scheduled for Tuesdays through October.

Apple Season comes with Princesses.
We love apples! So in honor of apple harvest time, the story at the Stroll this week is “The Apple-Pip Princess,” a gorgeously illustrated brand new fairy tale by Jane Ray. Come stroll with us. We’ll end up in the Library’s Back Yard where the fun activities happen.
So Many WINNERS!
Just one example: Joseph Vasquez, winner of the People’s Choice Award at the 3rd Annual Edible Book Contest. And the cake was deee-licious as well as beautiful.
