WE LOVE OUR BOOK DONATORS!

Donated books make up a unique portion of Whitefish Library’s collection and we are grateful to the community that thinks of us when they have books to donate. We are lucky to have a steady stream of current, gently used items in the topics and genres that reflect our community.

DONATION GUIDELINES:

Please contact us before you make a donation: At times the Library is inundated with donations and unable to accept more until a later time.

Due to space and time constraints, a family may donate only 2 boxes of items at any one time. Allow 1 month between donations.

Please DO NOT leave book donations outside the library! Well-meaning people sometimes leave books outside the Library as an intended donation. The Library can only accept books when staff can see the person who is donating them. This is a safety issue. Also, books left outside the Library can be vandalized and strewn about.

We’re often asked what types of books the library can use. Here is a general list:

Condition: All books should be unblemished – not torn, worn, water-or otherwise damaged. Book dustcovers should be intact. Books missing their dustcovers are not appropriate unless the inner cover is the same as the dustcover.

Current Titles in fiction and non-fiction. We accept books for adults and youth of all ages.

Classics.

Medical topics – published no later than 2 – 5 years ago.

Diet books – published no later than 3 years ago.

Computer or software books – published no later than 2 years ago.

Donated books can be an issue for the Library…

The Library cannot be responsible for, nor is it our mission to disperse books for people who “…just can’t throw books away!” If the Library cannot use or the Whitefish Library Association cannot sell items, they are a liability – taking up storage, staff time and Library funds to dispose of. That is why we ask you to look through your intended donations with these guidelines in mind.

Thank you!
