Readers ranging in age from babies to great-grandparents made Whitefish Community Library’s “Relax and Unwind” summer reading challenge a great success. The 441 participants read through the summer with the incentive to win prizes and to earn donations for a local nonprofit.
For the fifth year, Whitefish Credit Union supported the challenge with a donation of $1 for every row readers completed on their reading log. All the readers combined to earn a record $2850 for the Miracle League – a free, summer baseball program for children and adults with a special need or disability of any kind or severity, while 40 readers won prizes generously donated by local businesses.
“So many businesses in the valley were so generous this year. We can’t thank them enough for supporting literacy for youth in the summer,” stated Gina Schiff, Youth Services Librarian. The extensive list of donors can be found HERE.
The summer program ended with a celebratory Ice Cream Party in the Depot Park Gazebo, with ice cream and all the fixings donated by Safeway.
