Humanities Montana is partnering with libraries to relaunch One Book Montana, a statewide read spotlighting the 2025 Great Reads from Great Places authors. The statewide read will run from October 1 2025 – February 28 2026. The One Book Montana program invites all Montanans to read Becoming Little Shell: A Landless Indian’s Journey Home by Chris La Tray. Youth are invited to participate by reading The Mystery of Mystic Mountain by Janet Fox. All the libraries in the Flathead Valley – FVCC, Flathead County, and Whitefish – are participating in One Book Montana

Whitefish Community Library will have two book discussions for Becoming Little Shell facilitated by Librarian Mary Drew Powers.

Session 1: Monday, January 26, 5:00-6:30 pm.

Session 2: Tuesday, February 17, 1 – 2:30 pm.

For those who sign up for a book discussion, twenty copies of Becoming Little Shell will be available starting Monday, December 29th at the Library, compliments of Whitefish Library Association and Humanities Montana. We hope that readers will read and return their copy for someone else to read, so that the One Book Montana selection can be shared with as many readers as possible.*

Chris La Tray is scheduled to visit FVCC Library on the evening of Monday, February 23. Details will be added as the event is finalized.
