Lentil Underground: join us virtually!

Published on 02/01/24

Whitefish Community Library continues to host virtual programs from the Montana Library Network in 2024. Virtual programs are available to view on Zoom; participants join neighbors from throughout Montana.

Our second virtual offering is Thursday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m., and highlights the story of Montana’s organic agriculture movement and the pulse crop revolution from one of the farmers at the center of the story: David Oien, Founding Farmer of Timeless Seeds in Ulm. Moderating the conversation will be Liz Carlisle, author of the books Lentil Underground, Grain by Grain (with Bob Quinn), and Healing Grounds.

Yep, we’re here! Library is open regular hours

Published on 01/17/24

Hello! We’re shoveling out the steps from the parking lot and thinking about what fun it will be to be open tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 18) after a blizzard!

Library staff are coming from in-town only, so we’ll be safe and ready to help you at 10 a.m. as usual.

Note that a glacier is alive and well on the south sidewalk of the Library building where pedestrians access the main entrance from the parking lot steps. We have done a lot of chopping on it and sanded it and put a big cone on it. Our recommendation is that you use the sidewalk ramp by the bench to access the main entrance.

A Whole New World in the Children’s Area

Published on 11/06/23

If you haven’t visited the Children’s section of the Library lately, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. Youth Services Librarian Gina Schiff has transformed the once lonely corner into a haven for preschoolers and elementary ages with a play cubby and lots of STEM activities to engage young hands and minds.

An ocean-themed felt board, a sensory wall, and a magnetic whiteboard line the walls of the play cubby, with a Lego table to one side. Colorful tubs of building sets (build your own animal!) share space with the board books and puzzles. And there are still plenty of places to cuddle up and read.

Librarians know that providing opportunities for youngsters to explore, discover, and create leads to a broader knowledge of concepts, vocabulary, and self-confidence that themselves are the basis for learning – including learning to read. So bring on the play!

Serenity Saturday with Silvi: Mindfulness for Inner Balance.

Published on 09/15/23

Please join us Saturday afternoon, September 30th at 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. for the inaugural session of Serenity Saturday: Mindfulness for Inner Balance. If you’ve wondered if mindfulness might be right for you, want to separate fact from rumor, or just have a peaceful interlude, come learn from an expert instructor. The Library is able to offer this program thanks to part time Whitefish resident Silvi Winthrop.

Silvi our mindfulness instructor

Silvi is a mental health professional with a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University, and a certified McLean Meditation MMI Mindful® Trainer. In 2014, Silvi went to Sedona for personal renewal and rejuvenation. She learned mindfulness tools and how to meditate and kept up the daily practice, which changed her life. She found she was more aware, focused, and confident.

Silvi was so thrilled with the positive changes in her life that she wanted to share what she had discovered and help people better their lives by reducing their stress and healing their bodies. She took advanced training to bring mindfulness into the workplace. Silvi offers counseling, meditation and mindfulness training in the Los Angeles and Whitefish areas for groups, corporations, and individuals.
