Summer Fun at the Library continues on Thursday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. when Whitefish Lake Institute brings macroinvertebrates from local streams for kids to find and identify. Hope to see you there!

Thanks to an initiative by Montana’s First Lady Susan Gianforte, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is now becoming available across Montana, including the Flathead Valley.

The Imagination Library is Dolly Parton’s “book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income” according to the Imagination Library website. You can read more about how the Imagination Library came to Montana HERE, and don’t forget to click on CHECK AVAILABILITY on the upper right red banner to sign up your child(ren) for the very special free books mailed right to your house by the Imagination Library.

Mark your calendar for the most popular program of the summer. Montana Wild Wings returns to the Library’s back yard on Thursday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m.

Lawn chairs and cameras are recommended.

Wild Wings Director Beth Watne and her assistants walk the birds among viewers so that everyone gets a chance to see the raptors and take photographs. We ask that viewers refrain from distracting or startling birds so their handlers can keep them calm and safe.

We launch with Reading Challenge sign-up and Challenge Log pick-up on June 12 (or download a log here on and after June 12 if you can’t make it in).

Our first event is a visit from the ever-popular Alpine Theatre Project on Thursday, June 15 at 10:30 a.m.

Our partner nonprofit this year is Good Grief Camp. Good Grief Camp provides opportunities for youth who have experienced the loss of a loved one to go to camp with other children in similar situations. Every row on the Challenge Log that readers finish adds a sticker to the Good Grief Camp quilt, and a $1 pledge to the Camp. Our readers make a difference!

When it’s a…eleleggyraff? Leggellaphant? Whatever the name, our new mix-n-match magnetic animals are a hit with the kids. See them in the Children’s area with other simple toys for early learners
