We already have some of the student reviews from our Fall Into Reading program published on the website (Read them here!) and more are coming every day! Some have been published in the Whitefish Pilot: The Green Ember reviewed by Brielle Carr, Knight Owl reviewed by Tessa Rands, and coming just before Thanksgiving we’ll have Addie Nerdig’s review of Little Women. We also have winners of gift certificates from Bookworks of Whitefish, so far: Blaine Krause, Ruby Richards, Hudson Morris, Aubree Clark, and Lucia Binder. There are still two weeks left to submit a review – see the details on the Fall Into Reading page under Youth Services.

Summer Reading Challenge: SUCCESS!

Published on 08/19/22

Our readers read a stupendous amount this year. Not only did they meet the Whitefish Credit Union challenge to raise $500 for the Whitefish Lake Institute, but they read enough to earn 1,503 prize tickets.

Let’s put that in perspective:

Each one of those prize tickets means that a reader crossed off a row in their reading log. Each book on that row meant an average (of the 4 reading levels in the Challenge) of 31.25 minutes was read. Eight books on a row, so 8 books x 31.25 minutes means each row = 250 minutes of reading. 250 minutes in a row x 1,503 tickets = 375,750 minutes of reading.

Divide that by 60 (minutes in an hour) and you get 6,262.5 hours of reading.

Divide that by 24 (hours in a day) and you have 260.93 days of reading. Remember, this is reading during the entire 24 hours in the day.

Divide that by 7 (days in a week) and you get 37.28 weeks of reading.

Divide that by 4 (weeks in a month) and you get 9.32 months of reading – 24/7!
