Last Chance is an action filled horror story. The minute you pick it up you can’t put it down.

My favorite character was Little Rain.

In this book these absolutely crazy, yet awesome brothers work together to save humanity. They face monsters and zombies and evil drones on the run to get rid of any humans left on earth. In this story there is a lot of fighting and running. Every time something bad happens your heart starts beating and you’re so scared yet so anxious to find out what happens next! This book is suspense filled and every minute a chill crawls down your spine as you wait for the next move to be made. I swear if you read this story when you get to the ending you’re gonna be hungry for more. If you decide to read it you won’t regret it.

5/5 Stars

I recommend this to anyone who likes a good horror story.

This is my book review for The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I would recommend this book to older kids because a lot of my friends can’t read it because their parents say it’s inappropriate. I do not think that it is but I can not control what you can and can not read.

The main characters Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Melark are chosen to go into an arena with 11 other districts to fight to the death. Only one person can go home but Katniss decides to break that rule for the 74th annual Hunger Games. Katniss is the main character and my favorite because she is a strong, brave, smart, and independent woman and will always try to do the right thing for her family.

My favorite part of the book is the scene where they all first go into the arena. It is a rollercoaster and keeps you turning the pages to find out what will happen next. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Setting: District 12, Panem, Capital

Genre: Science Fiction

Characters: Katniss, Peeta, Haymitch, Prim, Gale, Rue, Effie, and more…

Katniss is a 16 year old girl who lives in a dystopian future of America called Panem. Every year, there is an event called the Hunger Games. Children between the ages of 12 and 18 must gather in each of the 12 districts while someone calls the names of one boy and one girl to compete in the Hunger Games. It is a fight to the death and only one person will survive. When Katniss hears her sister’s name being called, she bravely volunteers to take her place as a tribute for District 12, the district she lives in. The boy chosen was Peeta. She is sent to the capital, where she must train before the games start. Will she survive, or will she die like the rest of the tributes?

I would give this book a 5-star rating because it is action packed and it has a lot of detail. It is emotional and romantic and it has a very interesting ending.

Recommended for ages 10+ – violent and graphic.

Genre: Fantasy

The main characters of this epic and interesting book are Seth and Kendra. Seth is thirteen years old, loves adventure, and is always getting in trouble. Kendra is fifteen years old and, unlike her brother, follows the rules. Kendra is more cautious than her brother who disregards the risks and jumps right into the adventure. Seth is my favorite character because he is funny and is more interesting to follow in the story in my opinion.

The story starts in Connecticut in a place called Fablehaven, a hidden sanctuary for mythical creatures. Then Seth and Kendra go to Montana where they are established caretakers of another hidden sanctuary for larger and more dangerous creatures. While there the dragons take the opportunity to strike by revolting against the caretakers. The dragons want to be free and they will do all it takes to escape their sanctuary prison and take over the world, eliminating innocent people in the process. In this incredible adventure Seth and Kendra, with some help from their friends, have to stop the crafty dragons from taking over.

This book is my all time favorite book. I recommend this book to ten years and older who like fantasy books. This book is also easier to follow if you read the series leading up to it, Fablehaven.

After the dad died in a car crash, the family moves into their great grandpa’s house to savve money. The mom gets kidnapped, and there’s a big fight.

I liked the story, I liked it for the reason that it always had some sort of action type thing happening.

My favorite part of the story is probably when Emily, Navin, and Misket are chasing the kidnappers.

Even though I don’t typically like to read, I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone.

The Amulet book is a pretty good book, and I’d recommend it to my friends. I like it because it’s a graphic novel, and a pretty good one at that. It has a good amount of mystery and fantasy. One of the characters that wields the amulet is a girl who had to move from her old school and lost her dad in a car crash. She also has a brother who moved with them and the mother moved too. They moved to an old run down house where their grandfather used to live. They are all trying to find out what the phenomenon is about the amulet, as they enter a whole new world every time they quest. I give it a rating of 4.9 out of 5.

Letters From Cuba book cover In Cuba, Esther and her father make new friends, overcome challenges, and meet new kinds of people, some of who are determined to cause them trouble. Will their determination be enough to same them? Will they get their family out in time to save them?

This historical fiction book really brings the different attributes people can have into light. Ruth Behar describes what life would have been like as a little girl struggling to survive. Using imagery and incredible descriptive language, she helps readers understand what she is trying to say in a way people can understand.

My favorite character is Esther. Esther is a hardworking, intelligent, kind girl who is good at speaking up for what she believes in. Esther is not afraid to do dangerous things to protect her family. This shows Esther has undying loyalty to her family and friends. Another reason Ilike Esther is that I can relate to her in many different ways. My favorite thing about the book is that the author, Ruth Behar, illustrates what it would be like to be a Jewish immigrant in a bad situation. She makes everything very clear, and she uses excellent language.

After reading Letters From Cuba, I highly recommend it to anybody that likes historical fiction. It is a real page-turner and I have read it more than any other books. It is more for intermediate readers than advanced. Overall I rate this book ten out of ten. It is currently my favorite book.

Solitaire by Alice Oseman

Solitaire book cover Solitaire by Alice Oseman reviewed by Timmy Baumgartner, grade 6, Whitefish Middle School.

This book is a work of young adult fiction it has a little bit of cus words so if you are not suitable for that I don’t request this book for you. Even though it’s very much fiction it is like real life it has no dragons or fairies or anything like that. It’s mainly about a girl there is also another book the author wrote called Heart Stopper there is also a tv show about it but anyways Solitaire is about just a girl’s life (kind of a love story) it’s also about a blog that pulls pranks against the schools that the girl and a boy named Michael also the girl’s name is Tori. They both try to find the person who is pulling it.

The story is mostly taken place at Tori’s house and school. (I’m pretty sure it is taken place also at the United Kingdom.) There are a lot more people than Tori and Michael for starters her little brother Oliver. I consider him my favorite character. He doesn’t appear a lot but there’s a reason I like him and it is because he is adorable. At first appearance, he makes something out of boxes another time he asks Tori to help him out on a game and I find that adorable!

My favorite part in the book is when Oliver gets introduced mostly because he is my favorite character and it is nice and cute. Of course, there are more parts I like, there’s one time when Oliver calls Tori about something wrong with Tori’s other brother Charlie during the call he was watching Doctor Who and Tori asked if he watched Weeping Angels but another thing it was sad VERY SAD.

Recommending: I recommend this to those over 12 and too who like drama or depressing books it doesn’t have a lot of depressing scenes if I had to rate I would rate it a solid 5 stars and maybe 6. Overall very good!

A Tale of Sorcery book cover A Tale of Sorcery by Chris Colfer reviewed by Bella Woodruff, grade 6, Whitefish Middle School.

In the book A Tale of Sorcery by Chris Colfer you will experience ups and downs of action, adventure, and wonder.

When you read a good book you usually keep reading to find out what’s next, the climax, the solution, the ending, but in this book it’s like a murder mystery. Not only is there suspense but that feeling when your heart starts to race and you want to keep flipping pages until you find out what happens, that is this book in a fantasy, fairy-tale world. You may think that fantasy is not for you, that it’s filled with magic, and princesses, and fairies, and talking animals, but if it was I would tell you so, you need to read this book.

It will most likely make much more sense if you read the previous edition to the series including, ‘A Tale of Magic,’ and ‘A Tale of Witchcraft’, and if you finish the series you should read The Land of Stories series, a sequel by the same author, to keep reading the amazing story.

My favorite character in the book is Xanthous Hayfield, a fairy with a specialty for fire. In the book Xanthous must face his own challenges as his life is put at risk.

So what’s this book even about? A group of young fairies must face tons of emotional, physical, and mental challenges in the book in order to restore peace to the world around them after a new evil threatens to conquer all that’s left. Could you imagine? So much is at stake; so many different problems and suspenseful adventures all coming together to help save the world. Will they make it in time? You’ll have to read the book to discover what will happen.
