Celebrate the power of literacy to change lives. During the week of October 21- 26, Whitefish Community Library and Literacy Volunteers of Flathead County will have displays set up on the impact of literacy to change the lives of adults and their families. Flyers outlining Literacy Volunteer’s programs and recruiting volunteers for our Whitefish programs will be distributed in every book checked out that week. On Friday afternoon from 2- 5 p.m. we will display our collection of rare, unique and historic books—including a set of early Whitefish Police Records from the 1910 – 1919—and give out free books to adults and teens. Join us from 5- 6:30 p.m. for a short presentation for potential volunteers and stories about the impact our volunteers have in individual lives. Following the presentation—we’ll share some of the fun snippets and stories from the rare books. Come for the recipe for squirrel soup from a 1923 White House cookbook or learn about the infamous madams in Whitefish. Get a preview of the rare books that will be sold at our annual Love of Literacy event in April at this presentation. Call 257-7323 for more information or visit www.flatheadliteracy.org.
