2016. “Claims Returned” Materials
On rare occasions, library patrons claim that they have returned library materials even though those materials cannot be found on the shelves. The library records almost always show that those materials are still checked out to the library patrons. This situation will be called “claims returned” materials, for purposes of this policy.
Library patrons will be permitted to have two (2) “claims returned” materials on their library cards. If they have more than two (2) “claims returned” materials on their cards, their card privileges will be terminated.
The only way those privileges can be reinstated is to reimburse the Whitefish Community Library for the "claims returned" materials so that the number is reduced to two (2) or fewer.
The amount of reimbursement will be governed by the lost or damaged materials provisions in Policy 2014 , Library Card Privileges and Responsibilities.
Reviewed and re-approved as amended by the Whitefish Community Library Board of Trustees on February 13, 2019.
